I have nothing against race walking or ping pong, but are those really sports? Yet these two events are staying and wrestling could be eliminated from the Olympics.

Here's news of some online petitions that are gaining traction on Change.org (courtesy of Change.org):

As news broke this morning that the International Olympic Committee voted by secret ballot to recommend that wrestling be dropped as one of the “core sports” for the 2020 Olympic Games, lifelong wrestlers, coaches and fans have sprung into action on Change.org.

Within the last few hours, 10,235 people have signed 24 new petitions on Change.org to save Olympic wrestling, which has been a part of every modern Olympics since they began in 1896 (not to mention the ancient games).

Popular comments from the largest petition so far, with more than 7,500 signatures, include:

“My dad wrestled in the olympics and it would crush me to see wrestling be eliminated as an olympic sport.” - Austin from Glenview, IL

“I was a high school female wrestler, and don't believe wrestling should be taken from the olympics.” - Victoria from Covina, CA

“The wrestling community rallied behind me during cancer treatments, I am going to stand behind our wrestling family now.” - Eric from Benton, PA

Here are the three most popular petitions asking the IOC to save wrestling:
