CHAMBERSBURG -- Safety Atcheson Conway returned an interception 55-yards for a touchdown and quarterback Bill Ashburn threw for four scores Saturday in Chambersburg's 47-0 victory over the D.C. Explosion at Trojan Stadium.
The Cardinals (7-1) still trail the first-place Central Penn Piranha (8-0) in the Gridiron Developmental Football League's Keystone Division. The Explosion drops to 3-5.
The Cardinals' defense earned two sacks and forced four turnovers, including two interceptions by Conway.
Ashburn finished 20-of-30 for 187 yards and tossed four touchdown passes to four different receivers. "He's consistent. You can't really ask for anything more out of your quarterback than to be consistent," Chambersburg coach Chad Fauson said. "He's been solid. Even when he makes his checks and calls something different at the line of scrimmage, he's been money. It's hard to argue with that."
Ashburn completed touchdown passes to D'Andre Webb, Ottis Lewis, Gary Stackfield and Jerell Jones.
The GDFL recently announced its championship game will be held at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla. Fauson said he has set the team's sights on that. "I'm feeling pretty confident actually," he said. "I like what we have. I like the team we have. I think we can go somewhere.
"We can play for the championship; we've got that caliber team. As long as these guys stay focused and play like that, we'll be fine."
