Hempfield's Long ties district record in discus at track & field championships

SHIPPENSBURG -- Kyle Long of Hempfield tied the District 3 Class AAA boys' discus record Friday with a toss of 199-1 at Shippensburg University, tying the mark set by Ryan Whiting of Central Dauphin in 2005.

Marshay Ryan of Chambersburg won the Class AAA girls' triple jump at 39-8 1/2.

The Class AA girls high jump championship was claimed by Hanover's Morgan Herrick at 5-0. Ivana Mikulic of Camp Hill finished first in girls' AA shot at 36-11 1/2.

Casie Hain from Governor Mifflin topped the Class AAA girls' pole vault standings at 11-6; while Camp Hill's Ben Shank earned district gold in the Class AA boys' pole vault at 14-0.

Chrissy Rickert of Hempfield was crowned the 2012 Class AAA javelin champion after a throw of 128-4.
