Jankowski's big game helps Stony Brook win America East title

STONY BROOK -- Lancaster Catholic grad Travis Jankowski had three hits, three RBI and three runs scored Friday as Stony Brook won its second America East championship in three seasons with a 13-6 win over Maine, earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

The teams exchanged the lead three teams over the first three innings, with Stony Brook scoring three in the third to take a 6-3 advantage.

The 2012 America East Player of the Year, Jankowski was named to the all-tournament team; hitting .600 (9-for-15) with five RBI and seven runs scored.

Ranked No. 30 in the latest NCBWA poll, Stony Brook's victory over Maine was its 11th straight and 22 in the last 23 games. The Seawolves are now 46-11 on the season and own the best winning percentage (.807) in Division I.

It was Stony Brook's fourth all-time America East championship and third in the last five years.

The NCAA Tournament brackets will be announced on Monday at 12 p.m.
