LANCASTER -- Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy will host a celebrity softball game on June 23 at the home of the Lancaster Barnstormers to benefit ALS research and disadvantaged youth.
At a news conference at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Monday, McCoy said a number of All-Pro players had accepted his invitation to appear at the event; including Ray Rice of the Baltimore Ravens, Mike Wallace from the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Panthers' Cam Newton, Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks of the New York Giants, and Devin Hester from the Chicago Bears.
Those NFL players will face McCoy's team consisting of current and former Philadelphia Eagles teammates like DeSean Jackson, Brent Celek, Jeremy Maclin, and Brian Westbrook, respectively.
Proceeds from the game will benefit the LeSean McCoy Foundation, which raises funds and awareness for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). McCoy’s grandmother, Maryann Branch, recently passed after a long struggle with ALS. Tickets for the game can be obtained through the Lancaster Barnstormers beginning Thursday. Dugout box seats are $20 and field box seats are $15.
A home run derby will be held preceding the game at 6 p.m. The softball game begins at 7 p.m.
“Sports fans who attend this softball game will witness one of the finest assemblages of celebrity athletes in the history of Central Pennsylvania," said Anthony DeMarco, senior director of marketing for the Barnstormers, in a statement. "The Barnstormers’ organization is honored to host such an important event."
McCoy, who threw out the first pitch at the Barnstormers' home opener on May 1, agreed to a five-year, $45 million contract extension yesterday with the Eagles.
McCoy attended Bishop McDevitt High School.
