HARRISBURG -- Derek Fisher is getting ready to mash.
The graduate of Cedar Crest High School has accepted an invitation to compete at the third annual TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby on July 3 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, home of the College World Series, CBS 21 News Sports Director Jason Bristol has learned.
Fisher, a freshman All-America, led the University of Virginia in home runs this past season with seven.
He is one of eight players selected to attend the special event, which will be taped and televised nationally on CBS on Saturday, July 7 from 2-3 p.m. EST.
Fisher is also slated to play summer ball in the Northwoods League for the Madison (Wisc.) Mallards. Fisher will leave the Mallards briefly to attend the home run derby.
Last year's derby included Georgia Southern’s Victor Roache, who was first-round draft pick last week of the Milwaukee Brewers. College of Charleston’s Daniel Aldrich,
Collegiate Baseball’s
2011 Freshman of the Year, won the event in front of a crowd of 20,578 people.
