Fisher named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America

HARRISBURG -- Cedar Crest graduate Derek Fisher has been named to the 2012 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America team by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Fisher, an outfielder at the University of Virginia, ended his first season at UVA with a .288 batting average; he also led the Cavaliers with seven home runs and eight triples in 56 games.

Collegiate Baseball’s Freshman Player of the Year was Oregon State's Michael Conforto of Oregon St. The outfielder hit .349 with 14 doubles, 13 homers and 76 RBI. Carlos Rodon of North Carolina State was named the newspaper's Pitcher of the Year. He posted a 9-0 record with a 1.61 ERA and fanned 132 batters.

Virginia ended its season with a record of 39-19-1.
