The stars did indeed shine at Williams Grove on Wednesday night.
But some veterans raced right past Kasey Kahne and Kyle Busch to score impressive wins at the Ollie's Bargain Outlet "Battle at the Grove."
Local regular Brian Montieth passed Kahne on lap nine and went on to win the 30-lap sprint car feature, while York Haven's Jason Covert moved past Busch on lap 14 and breezed to a victory in the 25-lap late model feature.
Kahne couldn't hold off Dave Ely, either. Ely passed Kahne with six to go to finish second. Fred Rahmer came in third and Kahne held on for fourth. Aaron Ott, a rising senior at Bermudian Springs High School, was fifth. Pat Cannon, Chad Layton, Cody Darrah, Alan Krimes and Curt Michael finished in positions six through ten respectively.
Pat Cannon set fast time in qualifications with a lap of 18.451.
Heats for the 31 sprint cars were won by Montieth, Josh Weller and Kahne. Gerard McIntyre, Jr., claimed the Consolation race.
Busch finished second in the late model main event. He has recorded nine consecutive top-2 finishes this season on the Nationwide circuit. Jim Yoder, Scotty Haus, and Jeff Rine completed the top five. Les Hare, Mike Walls and Busch won heats for the 27 late models in the pit area.
All net proceeds of the event went to the Kasey Kahne Foundation, which donates funds to charitable organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House.
