NEWBERRYTOWN, Pa. -- Dover’s Gene Knaub picked up the 30-lap feature win with a last lap pass saturday in the first-ever Steel Block Bandits Late Model race at the Susquehanna Speedway Park.

Doug Bennett of Chambersburg won the 20-lap Street Stock feature; however, the race results are unofficial until later this week as Bennett failed his post-race technical inspection.

The 30-lap Steel Block Bandits Late Model Series feature began with polesitter Chase Billet taking the early lead over Andy Fries. Fries scooted by Billet on lap 3.

Over the final ten laps Fries and Knaub ran side-by-side lap after lap with Fries leading each time by the flagstand.

On the final lap, Knaub finally took command of the top spot off turn four and secured the victory over Fries. Armstrong settled for a close third. Randy Stoudt won the JR’s Paving Hard Charger award moving up 11 spots from a 15th place starting spot to finish fourth. Early leader Chase Billet rounded out the top five.

Glenn Elliott, Chase Billet, Bernie Beard and Andy Fries were the heat race winners.

The Steel Block Bandits Limited Late Model Series races at tracks in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and North Carolina.

Bennett went from fourth to first on the first lap of the 20-lap Street Stock feature to lead every lap until the end. However, Bennett failed the post-race technical inspection.

Bennett is currently appealing the ruling. If this appeal is denied, it would give Randy Zechman the feature victory over polesitter Scott Thunberg.

Donnie Broderick of Lancaster was victorious in the Xtreme Stock Car feature event; Ben Murphy won the Sidewinder Sprint Car 20-lapper and York Haven’s Sherry Kitner won the 10-lap Women on Wheels Mini Van feature event.
