Adam Wilt and Mark Smith won the rain-delayed twin 20-lap features for sprint cars Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway.
On the initial start Gerard McIntyre beat Wilt into the first turn and led the first lap until a red flag for a fourth turn crash involving Cody Darrah and Doug Esh caused the race to be restarted. On the restart Wilt drove off the front row and shot past McIntyre exiting the second corner, then immediately began to drive away from the field.
The 22-year old rookie led the feature for 22 laps two weeks ago before a crash ruined his night, but this time he was not to be denied. A ninth lap caution had no effect on Wilt, who again pulled away to a substantial lead and went on to win by 3.69 seconds over McIntyre. It was Wilt's first career victory at Williams Grove while McIntyre, who is also a rookie, scored his best finish.
Jim Siegel claimed third ahead of Aaron Ott and Brent Marks. Alan Krimes, Mark Smith, Chris Meleason, Todd Shaffer and Chad Layton completed the top ten.
With a ten-car inversion for the second feature Layton and Shaffer started on the front row. Shaffer set the pace with Mark Smith, who started fourth, moving into contention after taking the runner-up spot from Layton on lap four. Smith used a bold inside move in traffic through turns three and four on lap 16 to take the lead from Shaffer, then rolled to his first win of the season.
Shaffer,Layton, Marks and Darrah completed the top five ahead of Siegel, Krimes, Brian Leppo, Meleason and Ott. Montieth and Leppo earned $250 Hard Charger awards from Beam Carpet of Carlisle. Smith set a new 20-lap track record of 6:08.588 eclipsing Lance Dewease's 7-year old mark of 6:08.77.
On Saturday, Greg Hodnett beat Chad Layton on the final lap to win the 25-lap feature at Port Royal Speedway.
