In the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex scandal, the infamous Westboro Baptist Church, based in Topeka, Kansas, says it will protest prior to Saturday's Penn State game against Nebraska, according to the group's website.

"Now there are two doomed states if ever there were," the church said on its website. "On the one side you have Nebraska who arrested one of the servants of God for allowing her son to stand on this nations (sic) idol. On the other side you have the state that started the mischief of putting the church of the Lord Jesus Christ on trial for preaching!

The Westboro Baptist Church has gained national notoriety for picketing the funerals of soldiers and its extreme stance against homosexuality.

"Now, Penn State has the wrath of God raining down on them in righteous judgement (sic)!" the church added. They have taken from the playbook of the Catholics."

"Fitting that the head cover-up artist is called the Pope of Happy Valley. How sick is that! Not surprising, but sick! College in this country is nothing more than a giant party, with a few classes set to instruct in sin thrown in for good measure."

Joe Paterno announced his retirement, effective at the end of the season, on Wednesday. The University has not commented on Paterno's status. Saturday's game is the final home game of the season.

I think the Westboro Baptist Church is awesome! It's about time some people stood up & informed America of their Sodomite ways!

Hi. These idiots just don't care. Because they do it just to get America very angry. They need to be banned from Internet access too. Because they do nothing but use "Hate Speach". And they abuse and harass people online too. I hope the United States does something about this very soon. Because these people need to be stopped.

Jesus never hated on anyone. He was about love and understanding. God tells us not to judge others, that he is the one true judge. I'm not sure what rulebook Westboro Baptist Church is following, but it certainly isn't the Bible. The best thing you can do for these people is to pray for them. They are all lost and need are prayers to bring them back to God.

I live in Kansas and these idiots protest all of the time. They have protested at the high school near my home. The best thing to do is to ignore them. They usually have their kids holding signs or standing on the American flag. No one is going to beat up a 10 year old, even if they are spewing hate messages. They also videotape their protests so if there are problems, they can sue. They are all lawyers, even if many of them have no license, they know the law. They will have all of the permits necessary to do what they do and will be put in a specified area. Chances are, they have notified law enforcement and will be protected. It's sad, but it is legal. If you do anything, they will tie up your court system. I wish there was some way to get rid of them, but Americans love their civil liberties and they like to push the envelope of the law.

Happy Valley is hurting enough over this scandal, we don't need them to come tear apart our town more than it already has been by the media. Our town is already in pain, yes bad things happen, but we don't need them to make it worse.
