Rod is a Pennsylvania native, born and raised in the western side of the state, just outside of Pittsburgh. He is well accustomed to Pennsylvania's changing climate, and how the weather impacts various outdoor activities. So, he is used to the cold and snowy winters and the hot and humid summers.
Rod has a family history of being outdoors in the
Keystone State. His grandfather was a life-long employee
of the Commonwealth as a superintendent of several state
parks. Rod's father, in addition to being a high school
biology teacher, was also a park ranger.
Rod graduated from South Side High School, and
attended Ohio University. There, he graduated with a
Bachelor of Science degree from the Scripps College of
Communication. Later, he obtained his broadcast
meteorology degree from Mississippi State University
where he received Academic Honors for receiving a
perfect 4.0 GPA in all of his schoolwork.
Rod has worked at several television stations in
Virginia and West Virginia. His job prior to
joining WHP was the Chief Meteorologist at a CBS
affiliate in Central Virginia for two and a half years.
When not working as the morning weekend meteorologist, Rod
is passionate about fishing in the spring and summer, and
rooting for the Steelers in the fall and winter. He also
enjoys golfing, skiing, hiking, biking, movies, music and
spending time with friends.
