LANCASTER - More than 4,000 youth soccer players from Maine to Virginia will be in Lancaster this summer for the 2012 US Youth Soccer Region I Championships.
The joint announcement was made Thursday at Clipper Magazine Stadium by the Lancaster Barnstormers, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer, Lancaster Mayor Rick Gray, the three Lancaster County Commissioners and representatives of the Pennsylvania Dutch Convention and Visitors Bureau.
"Each team that (will be) here is a state champion, so this is great, high-level soccer," said Chris Branscome, the CEO of Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer and the co-chair of the organizing committee.
The tournament will be played at various fields around Lancaster. The opening ceremonies will take place at Clipper Magazine Stadium on June 28.
