HARRISBURG -- The Harrisburg City Islanders scored two goals before halftime Wednesday to win their final regular season home game 3-0 over the Charleston Battery at Skyline Sports Complex.
Striker Brian Ombiji scored on a rebound in the 31st minute -- five minutes after he broke free and was taken down from behind by Battery defender Kyle Hoffer, who was sent off with a red car.
Tom Mellor would add his fourth goal of the season in the 36th minute, curling a free kick from the top of the penalty area over the Battery's wall to make it 2-0.
"We've made some mistakes at home," Harrisburg defender Bilal Duckett said, according to the team. "But for us to finish here strong gives us confidence heading into playoffs."
The Islanders move to 9-6-6, a point behind Charleston in the USL PRO standings. The Battery falls to 11-10-1.
