HARRISBURG -- Former NFL defensive back Robert Tate, who graduated from Harrisburg High School, hosted a free sports camp Saturday at the YMCA in Harrisburg.

Tate provided children from around Dauphin County with the fundamentals -- along with free supplies for school, like pens, paper, crayons and glue sticks. Each child each wrote an essay to attend, according to Tate.

Tate, who lives in Phoenix, Arizona, frequently returns to Harrisburg for charitable work through the Robert Tate Foundation. "My Mom always taught me the values and morals; you never forget where you came from and Harrisburg is my hometown," said Tate, who last played in the NFL in 2006. "I always want to come back.

"These kids are what its all about, (and) The Robert Tate Foundation. These kids did real well in school and I wanted to reward them with a free camp."

Tate played for the Vikings, Ravens, and Cardinals during his nine-year career.
