HARRISBURG -- It's time to play some softball.
The Harrisburg Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities softball team has been practicing in the City of Harrisburg; at Boyer East Field, where it can help its mission of recruiting players from the inner cities.
"We found coming over here and practicing at Boyer East, the community people come out to watch," said Michael Stepp, Harrisburg's head coach. "It really created a nice atmosphere for what were trying to do here."
Harrisburg is hosting the Mid-Atlantic regional tournament.
The winner advances to the RBI World Series; the national baseball and softball tournament of Major League Baseball’s RBI program. RBI is the Major League Baseball initiative designed to provide under-served youth with the opportunity to play baseball and softball, encourage academic success and teach the value of teamwork.
"To be able to give back to the community is a good thing; its what we want to do," said shortstop Taylor Weisman, who also serves as the team captain. "I love doing volunteer work; helping kids out; get 'em off the streets and come out and play ball."
