GRANTHAM - Messiah freshman Mallory Rutledge thwarted a late offensive surge and earned her first college save Thursday in a 3-2 victory over Lycoming.

Senior Jaclyn Merkel went 3-3 with a single, double, and triple for the Falcons in the first game of a doubleheader.

Messiah starter Sara Dietrich reached the seventh inning allowing two runs on seven hits, but gave way to Rutledge, who recorded the game's final three outs. Rutledge attended Solanco.

In game two, a four-run third inning gave the Falcons (21-6, 6-0) a 5-2 win.
