HARRISBURG -- The New York Mets have added left-handed pitching prospect Darin Gorski to the team's 40-man roster.
"Couldn't be happier," tweeted the Donegal High School grad on Tuesday night.
Gorski, who also attended Kutztown University, went 9-8 with a 4.00 ERA this season for Class AA Binghamton. He made 24 starts and struck out 118 hitters in 139.2 innings.
New York added Gorski to avoid losing him to another team during the Rule 5 Draft at the Winter Meetings in Nashville.
In 2011, Gorski was named the New York Mets' Sterling Organizational Pitcher of the Year, given to the organization's top minor league pitcher. He went 11-3 with a Florida State League-best 2.08 ERA in 27 games for St. Lucie (High-A) and was named the FSL's Pitcher of the Year.
New York also protected it's top prospect, RHP Zack Wheeler, as well as pitchers Hansel Robles, Gonzalez Germen and Greg Burke; and infielder Wilfredo Tovar.
