HARRISBURG -- Right-handed pitcher Nate Eppley, a graduate of Northern York and the younger brother of Yankees relief pitcher Cody Eppley, has been promoted to Burlington of the Midwest League (Class A) by the Oakland A's.

Nate Eppley was 3-0 with a 1.98 ERA in 14 games for the Vermont Lake Monsters, Oakland's short-season Class A team in the New York-Penn League. He struck out 24 in 27.1 innings.

Eppley also saved two games and the league was hitting just .165 off him.

He was arguably the NY-P's best and most consistent set-up man.

"I enjoy that role," said Eppley, a 29th-round draft pick in 2011 from Rider University. "I pitched like that in college; I was (usually) first guy out of the 'pen; the bridge to get the closer.

"That's pretty much the same role I'm in now; two or three inning stints, just trying to give my team a chance to win."

A new pitch has helped him keep batters guessing more.

"I started throwing a cutter this year and it's really been effective for me," he said. "(It's) getting guys to swing early and hit a lot of ground balls and I've been really successful with it."
