GREENSBORO, N.C. - Penn State senior Joey DeBernardis crushed a two-run homer but UNC Greensboro scored 4 runs in the seventh Friday for a 10-7 win in the opening contest of a three-game series.

Penn State trailed 6-5 in the seventh, but UNCG scored four more runs on just one hit and four Nittany Lion errors. Penn State (1-3) starter Cody Lewis (0-2) was credited with the loss after lasting just 3 2/3 innings and allowing six runs on nine hits.

The Nittany Lions took control early in the contest as they got a pair of runs in the top of the first. With a runner on first, DeBernardis hit a two-run shot over the left field wall to make it 2-0. Penn State would get a run in the eighth on an Zach Ell single and another in the ninth on an RBI single, but UNCG was able to hold on for the 10-7 victory.

DeBernardis went 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Penn State looks to rebound tomorrow, as it will take on the Spartans for the second contest of a three-game set at 1 p.m.
