PALMYRA -- Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos is teaming up with former major leaguer Melvin Dorta of Lebanon County to help a young girl in need of another heart surgery.

Ramos will appear at a fundraiser Sunday at B2B Baseball & Softball Academy at In the Net in Palmyra.

Proceeds from the event will help Vicky Cabrera Mata, of Venezuela, who is living with a congenital heart defect. She needs a third, corrective surgery.

The 13-year-old is known for her bubbly personality, despite her medical issues.

"She has shown me that life is hard, but you always have to smile because you have to enjoy every day at a time," said Dorta, who is now an instructor at B2B.

Both Ramos and Dorta are natives of Venezuela. Dorta, a former member of the Harrisburg Senators, played for the Nationals in 2006.

Ramos, who is recovering from a torn right ACL suffered last May, is close friends with Cabrera Mata's mother. He hit .265 with three home runs and 10 RBI last season in only 25 games.
