Passing the torch is never easy.
The York College wrestling program's head coach Tom Kessler has nearly completed his 21st and final season.
Selecting current assistant Duane Bastress to take over wasn't a tough call.
The two-time national champion didn't want to leave York, and they weren't going to let him.
Coach Kessler makes a good point.
"What more could you want, he's the most decorated wrestler in York College's history."
Bastress was Kessler's right hand man for the past six seasons.
Six very good seasons.
Helping the Spartans set a program record for team wins last year.
"Look at our success." Kessler adds. "The guys having a lot of success, they're the ones working late with Duane."
Admittedly, Duane's not a big "stat" guy, but there's one number he'll never forget.
Forty. Part of his magical run in 2006, his senior year at YCP, when he went 40-0.
Bastress isn't shy about having high expectations when he takes over next year.
"I want my student athletes to experience what i experienced."
