That sigh of relief coming from fans of The Good Wife Sunday was not over an Alicia (Julianna Margulies) and Will (Josh Charles) reunion, nor even a possible rekindling of the passions between Alicia and Peter (Chris Noth). It was for the CBS legal drama's real fan-favorite duo, Alicia and Kalinda (Archie Panjabi), and what appeared to be the beginning of a reconciliation for the former best friends.
Alicia didn't exactly open her arms for the very private private investigator or invite her out for some tequila shots, but she did bail Kalinda out of jail (take that, Cary!) and she did thank her for finding Grace. Now the question is will Alicia and Kalinda simply remain on good terms — but nothing more — or will they be able to truly put the pieces of their friendship back together? "There is a protective quality Kalinda has towards Alicia even when their friendship is at its lowest ebb and almost doesn't exist," executive producer and co-creator Robert King told TVGuide.com last week. "The difficulties will be for Alicia to see if she can pull herself out of this kind of anger and frustration with Kalinda and what way a friendship might reconfigure itself."

It may be a tall order to ask Alicia to forgive Kalinda for sleeping with her husband, but now that everything is out in the open, is it possible that their worst days are behind them? "Just like with any relationship, after there is a break, people get together," executive producer and co-creator Michelle King said. "There can't be the very same relationship there was before, but hopefully it can be stronger."
So if Alicia can find a way to forgive Kalinda, can she do the same with Peter? After Grace's disappearing act brought them together as parents last week, the exes shared a few warm moments in Sunday's episode. But now that Wendy Scott-Carr has revealed her real target in the investigation — Peter and not Will — the State's Attorney may be a little preoccupied. "Peter has to face the question whether he is a more corrupt person when he is intrinsically bound with politics and advancing his political career," Robert King said. "Peter is a character that interests us a lot this year partly because of the dilemma of a politician who wants to be clean as opposed to a pure clean."

Producers recognize that the tension between Alicia and Kalinda and between Alicia and Peter has made for a slightly bumpy Season 3 thus far, but say the focus moving forward will be not only how these relationships reform, but take on new shapes and dynamics. "The difficulty I think we are facing now is there are things we always liked in year two, but you can't just return to it without feeling like you are taking a step back. It has to be a forward movement to something where these characters are reuniting again," King said. "If anything, this year was a little more fractured just because the relationships were fractured. How do these relationships find footing with each other is the question."
The Good Wife airs Sundays at 9/8c on CBS.
