Refrigerators, appliances that keep food cold or frozen, are available in a wide variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. In addition, many offer extra features such as ice makers, water dispensers, and adjustable shelves. Refrigerators also vary in the way they are defrosted. A standard unit defrosts when the power is turned off, leaving the frost to melt slowly on its own. In cycle-defrost models, a heater turns on periodically when the temperature reaches a certain point, but the unit still requires manual defrosting every few months. In a frost-free refrigerator, however, frost is continually melted away by a heater that turns on for twenty to thirty minutes, two to three times a day. There are many factors to consider when purchasing a major appliance like a refrigerator. Evaluate your finances, needs, and available space before deciding on a unit. For more information on refrigerators, contact your local appliance dealer.
