Attic inspections
Attics make ideal nesting spots for a variety of pests. If you let them, birds, bats, squirrels and other creatures will happily take up residence in there. They've been known to chew through electrical wiring, often causing hundreds of dollars in repairs.
Bat control
By some estimates, one-fourth of all the mammals on earth are bats. Because they're nocturnal and tend to avoid people, we don't see much of them.
Bee control
Bees are one of the most beneficial insects around. They pollinate flowers and make some really fine honey.
Beetle control
There are many types of beetles, but none of them are beneficial when it comes to gardens. The most common type is the Japanese beetle, which migrated to this country in the early part of the twentieth century.
Bird control
Many birds are friends of mankind. You might even build them houses and baths.
Boxelder bug control
Boxelder bugs, naturally enough, are attracted to boxelder trees, which are a type of maple. However, at certain times of the year, thousands of these red and black insects can gather on the trees, as well as anyone or anything nearby.
Carpenter ants
Carpenter ants, in some parts of the country, can do more damage than termites. Unlike termites, they don't actually eat wood, but instead make their colonies inside it.
Centipede control
Centipedes are generally found outdoors, under rocks or logs, but they can sometimes make their way into homes, where they prefer damp basements, closets or bathrooms. They are also poisonous, but their bite is seldom worse than a wasp sting and is more painful than dangerous.
Cinch bug control
Cinch bugs, sometimes known as chinch bugs, are one of the most damaging insect pests to your yard. They literally suck the fluid from the blades of grass, resulting in brown or yellow patches.
Cockroach control
Cockroaches have been around for millions of years, and it's unlikely that they'll go away soon. They come in many varieties, including the American roach, German cockroach, and brownbanded cockroach, among others.
Common ants
Ants seem to be everywhere. They come in all sizes and can be black, red or brown.
Cricket control
Crickets have one of the best reputations in the insect world. In some countries they're even kept as pets.
Dead animal removal
Always be wary of dead animals! They can be a source of disease and, if not actually dead, can bite when you try to move them.
Fire ants
The first fire ants were probably brought here accidentally on ships from Brazil or Argentina, but they've certainly made themselves at home since then. They're easily recognized by their agressiveness, something not found in other ant species.
Flea control
If you have a pet, at some point you'll probably have flea problems. They don't stay on the animal, either. Instead they burrow deep into carpet and furniture to lay eggs.
Fly control
Flies aren't just annoying; they can be dangerous. Flies can spread disease and contaminate food.
Hornets and wasps
Wasps and hornets are among the most painful pests. They are fiercely protective of their nests, and will sting anyone or anything that disturbs them.
Mosquito control
There are about 150 different species of mosquitos in the U.S., and they all have one thing in common: they want to drink your blood. A single female can lay several hundred eggs at a time, and most varieties will mature within two weeks.
Moth control
There are many varieties of moths, and most of them are destructive. A moth goes through four stages of life: egg, larva, pupae and adult.
Possums
Possums are wild animals that normally avoid contact with humans. They're nocturnal, and are rarely seen during the daytime.
Preventing re-entry
No one wants pests in their home, and it's usually easier to keep them out rather than remove them once they're inside. Cleanliness is a good start.
Raccoons and squirrels
They're cute, they're furry and they're fun to watch. But raccoons and squirrels can be dangerous nuisances if they move into your home.
Rats and mice
Rats and mice have been problems throughout mankind's recorded history. They eat what we do, enjoy the same temperatures and carry many serious diseases.
Scorpion removal
There are many household pests more dangerous than scorpions, but few are more frightening. Scorpions can grow up to three inches long, with nasty-looking pincers in front and a stinger on their tail.
Silverfish control
Silverfish are one of the most ancient species of insects, going back some 400 million years. They frequently infest even brand new homes, hiding away in lumber as it's delivered.
Spider control
In the yard or garden, spiders are among the most beneficial creatures around. They feed on insects that cause problems to plants.
Ticks
Ticks are among the most dangerous pests around. Because they feed on blood, their bites can transmit such diseases as typhus and Lyme disease.
