Choosing an alarm company

If you're considering installing a home security system, you need to find an alarm company that suits your needs. More importantly, you need to make sure you understand the terms of your agreement with the service provider. Many companies offer a low rate on a security system for new customers. If you've never heard of the company before, there might be a reason for that. Often, these low profile companies take your contract and sell it to a third party, who could monitor your system from out of state. These companies sell your contract because it helps them cover the costs of installation and equipment. It's also much cheaper to monitor your system from out of state. Some companies will rent equipment or programming to you on a monthly basis. This can increase your yearly costs by as much as ten percent. This also restricts you from switching to another company, even after your contract expires. Even though you don't own this equipment, it's often your responsibility to maintain it. In the event that you're dissatisfied with your monitoring service, you can't change companies because you're bound by contract and you're renting the equipment and programming. When considering a security system, be sure to ask about additional costs that might not be included in the initial package. For example some companies charge extra fees for programming, phone connection, phone jacks, or system connection fees. Getting as much information about a company, their services, policies, and fees, can help you make a smart choice when using a home security system.
