There are certain behavioral and medical problems associated primarily with cats. Included among these are house soiling, destructive scratching, and hair balls. Cats often spray urine in an attempt to mark their territory. Neutering might help this problem, or owners can spray the cat with water when it is caught in the act. If the water hose is then left near the area for a few days, most cats will immediately stop the behavior. If a cat refuses to use a litter box, owners can try changing the litter brand, cleaning the litter box, making sure the litter is not too deep, or moving the box to another location. Scratching is a natural behavior for cats, so owners should be sure to provide cats with a scratching post. To dissuade a cat from scratching a piece of furniture, owners can, again, use a blast of water as punishment. Hairballs, the accumulation of hair in the stomach from self-grooming, are the most common cause of vomiting in cats.
