With a few crayons and some candle stubs, kids can create anything from doll food to dinosaurs. A word of warning: this is an activity that definitely needs considerable adult supervision. Before the children start, you'll need several tin cans, one for each color of crayon or candle. Put a couple of crayons and candle stubs in each can and then place in a pan of water on the stove. Don't place the cans directly on the burner because the contents are flammable. Turn the burner on low heat. After the crayon and candle mixture is melted, pour it onto a sheet of waxed paper. While the wax is cooling for a couple of minutes, have the kids grease their hands with oil or butter. Now they're ready to mold the colored wax into little cars, mini-cupcakes, baby dolls, monsters ... whatever they want! If the wax cools off too much and becomes hard, dip it into some warm water. When it softens, your little sculptor should be back in business.
