HARRISBURG -- Olympic gold medalist Jamie Gray has decided to skip the upcoming Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show after the show's promoters banned the sale and display of assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines.
Gray, from Lebanon County, posted her decision late last night on her Facebook page. She was scheduled to be an "expert guest" at the show, which runs from February 2-10.
"My decision is due to what I feel would be an inability as an Olympic athlete to represent my sport, industry and USA Shooting teammates in the best possible manner given the political climate that will be present as a result of the decisions that have been made," she wrote.
More than the 260 people have 'liked' her post and comments left on her page are all supportive of her decision, which she says was not an easy one.
"The message that I hope to instill in the participants of the ESOS can only be muddled as a result of the current situation. I look forward to my involvement in the Show in the years to come," she added.
Gray won the women's 50-meter rifle 3-position in London.
She now resides in Alabama and is an assistant shooting coach at Columbus State University.
