HARRISBURG -- Susquehanna Speedway Park late model champion Carl Billet has died at Hershey Medical Center after suffering a stroke.

Billet, 58, suffered the stroke on Saturday. He attended SSP's annual banquet the night before in York and was honored for being the 2012 track champion.

He had been listed in critical condition earlier in the day.

Billet has won seven late model track championships at Susquehanna Speedway Park and is the track's all-time feature winner with 58 victories.

He raced for more than 30 years and had also won track titles at Clinton County, Silver Spring, and Bedford Speedways, according to his website.

Editor's note: This story has been updated from a previous version to change Billet's victories from 57 to 58.
