Members of the Williams Valley School Board voted Thursday night to suspend a teacher facing child pornography charges.
Earlier this week, CBS 21 News broke the news that Band Director Leroy Johns had been arrested for buying child pornography over the internet. Johns was charged by State Police, but released when he posted bail.
The Williams Valley School District serves communities in both Dauphin and Schuylkill Counties.
On Tuesday, CBS 21 News confronted Johns at his home in Tower City, but he had little comment. When asked about his status with the school dsitrict, he said the school hadn't taken any action yet.
When the School Board did take action Thursday night, ony one member of the public was present.
The Board voted to suspend Johns indefinitely and hire someone else to replace him. Johns is also prohibitted from being on school property, or having contact with any students.
Johns is entitled to appeal the Board's decision, if he chooses.
He is not suspected of having inappropriate contact with any students.
CBS 21 News was the only tv station to cover tonight's meeting. We'll have exclusive reaction from the Williams Valley Superintendent tonight on
