In our continuing coverage of severe weather awareness week, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) wants to remind everyone that severe weather can happen at any time and doesn't need to be a huge event to have a big impact.
Major snow storms, hurricanes, tropical storms, and tornadoes. We all know they can be considered as severe weather.
But PEMA wants residents to be prepared and informed. Weather can turn any situation into a severe emergency without a moment's notice.
“If you have someone in the family with special medical needs, a medical device that uses electricity, a power outage is much more severe,” explained PEMA Press Secretary Cory Angell.
Having a plan is important, and Angell says sometimes the plan can be as simple as having a variety of ways to call loved ones for help and assurance that you are okay.
“When we had the earthquake the phone lines jammed, if you have a person in a different area code many times you can call outside the area,” Angell told us.
