CBS 21 News spoke with Bishop Joseph McFadden at the Harrisburg Diocese about the new pope.
Bishop McFadden says he is very happy that former Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina, who will go by Pope Francis, was chosen.
"It's a great joy. I just can't tell you how ecstatic I am at the selection they made,” bishop McFadden explained. “I think that the Holy Father, by taking the name Francis, really has captured what I believe is his belief as we know Francis was recalled to build the church. One whose whole focus was on the poor and I think taking the names Francis, he's been called to rebuild the church."
Bishop McFadden asks that the public pray for the new pope, who is the first non-European pope.
Also,Bishop McFadden and the Harrisburg Diocese will celebrate a mass for the pope Friday at noon at St. Patrick Cathedral in Harrisburg.
