UPDATE:

A Perry County man lost his life Thursday in a two-vehicle crash five miles west of Marysville. The stretch of Route 850 in Rye Township is the scene of numerous crashes.

Neighbors say it's time to do something to stop the deaths, serious injuries and damage.

State Police say the man killed was 47-year-old David J. Hammaker of Marysville, the lone person in the truck. The driver of the other pick up and two passengers had minor injuries.

A third passenger was flown to Hershey Medical Center with serious injuries.

The crash occurred mid-afternoon in the 2400 block of Valley Road, PA Route 850. State Police say Hammaker was traveling east on the two-lane winding road. Tire marks show where the truck veered left, crossing into the westbound lane and striking the other truck head-on.

Sue Radabaugh ran from her house to the crash site.

"I saw the two vehicles that were crashed together and a few of the men standing outside along the road there," Radabaugh told CBS 21.

“The one man I talked to said he was okay,” Radabaugh continued. “Another man was in a lot of pain and there was some blood. And one person never got out of the vehicle."

Neighbors say at least three people have died in crashes in recent years. A handmade cross stands in testament to one victim. Other signs of remembrance are close to the cross, appearing to have been forgotten.

Route 850 is a state road maintained by PennDOT. Rye Township has no local force and relies on State Police.

"I think it's a dangerous corner. I think people take it too fast,” Radabaugh commented. “They don't realize how sharp the corner is. I would hope they could straightneck the corner out or do something or have a posted speed limit doesn't seem to be working helping now."

Ms. Radabaugh noted that the day before the crash she saw State Police sitting at the corner looking for speeders.

State Police say details regarding the cause of the crash remain under investigation. They are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact troopers at the Newport station.

The driver of the F-450, Michael L Sheaffer, 27, and two other passengers had minor injuries.  One of Sheaffer's passengers, Ryan Bringhurst, 28, of Shermansdale had serious injuries and was flown to Hershey Medical Center.
