UPDATE:
The week-long lock down at Dauphin County Prison will end at 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
Normal visitation hours will resume at that time.

25-year-old Andthony Ray Spears faces numerous charges after trying to escape from Dauphin County Prison this week.
The prison has been locked down since around 1230 p.m. on Tuesday. At that time, prison staff discovered that Spears had been using a steel support arm that was broken off of a desk chair as a tool to dig a hole in the jail cell wall.
Damages to the cell are estimated at $5,000.
Spears faces third-degree felony counts of attempted escape, criminal mischief and intimidation of a witness.
Visitation may be restricted up to a week while correctional officers thoroughly sweep the prison.
During a lock down, inmates must remain in their cells and visitation is restricted. The lock down will remain in effect until a thorough search of the prison has been conducted to ensure the safety and security of the inmates, prison employees and visitors.

Dauphin County Prison could remain in lockdown for one week.
On Tuesday, an inmate attempted to dig a hole in his jail cell wall and escape. The facility went into lockdown immediately. According to a press release from the prison, the inmate used a metal implement that he removed from a mounted tray in his cell to chip away at the wall. Damages to the cell are currently being assessed.
Dauphin County Criminal Investigation Division and the District Attorney’s Office are investigating the escape attempt. Charges may be filed against the inmate. The inmate’s identification may be released pending the conclusion of the criminal investigation.
