In September, Pennsylvania's unemployment rate rose, but stayed under the national average, which is now more than 10-percent for the first time in 30 years.
That's why some are calling this an "unemployment crisis."

At Kathie's Christmas and collectibles, 3 people found jobs this holiday season, including Kristi Raugh.

" I feel very fortunate, " said Kristi Raugh, recently hired at Kathie's Christmas and Collectibles, Cumberland County.

But there are many more, who may still be out of work, including Barbara Lundgren's daughter.

" She was an interior designer, laid off after one year and a half with the company," said Barbara Lundgren, Lancaster County.

The U.S unemployment rate spiked to 10.2 percent.
But those who crunch the numbers say it may actually be higher; more like 17.5 percent, if you count those who've settled for part-time jobs or stopped looking for work.

" We are performing well. In September, we were a full percentage point below the national average," said Troy Thompson, PA Department of Labor and Industry spokesperson.

Even though it may seem like PA is more fortunate than the rest of the country, PA Labor Department Spokesperson Troy Thompson says the double digit national unemployment numbers are a remaining concern.
He says the state is fairing better, because it's invested in job creation.

" Through stimulus money and things like investing in our workforce programs, we must continue to be diligent in our efforts," said Thompson.

The Pa Department of Labor and Industry says if you're looking for work, these days, you'll find it in Healthcare and Education.
