Police say a car traveling the wrong way on Route 322 in Swatara Township caused a three car crash.

According to a press release, officers were called to the 8700 block of Paxton Street (State Route 322) on Thursday for a car traveling the wrong direction.

Witnesses told officers, the car was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes.

Officials say when they arrived on scene, the car was gone, but had caused three eastbound cars to crash into each other.   All three cars were trying to avoid the car traveling the wrong way.

Witnesses told police the car had entered the eastbound lanes of 322 at the Middletown Road interchange in Derry Township.

Officers were called to another crash around 7:30 p.m.  on Interstate 283 involving the same car.

State Police say the driver was taken into custody.
