Chambersburg residents dig out of snowstorm, and hope spring comes soon

In Franklin County crews were called in early to lay down salt, students enjoyed a snow day. But residents cleaning off the sidewalk want to know will the winter end?

Steve Necaster was shoveling Monday morning, even though it's spring. “This is what mother nature brought so this is what were gonna do.”

While some of us handled the snow like a duck in water, crews in Chambersburg were ready for the white stuff.

Assistant Borough Manager David Finch said crews were ready bright and early. “We rolled out around 4:30 this morning to salt the roads and make sure they were kept safe.”

As the snow fell, Chambersburg residents shoveled away by the fall of the last flake, those who live in the borough have 24 hours to clear off the side-walk or they could get fined. But Finch even though the snow was expected to continue, drivers wouldn't have to worry. “We expect the streets will be clear, keep clear, and if conditions worsen we'll keep it at.”

For Steve, he's waiting out the storm for spring to come. “I'm waiting for spring if ever shows up…”

A spring snowstorm blanketed parts of the Washington area Monday morning, closing schools, causing scattered power outages and making roads treacherous for commuters.

The snow-slicked landscape was more reminiscent of midwinter than early spring, and it caught many residents by surprise after previous predictions of heavy snowfall this winter failed to materialize.
