Phillip Phillips was crowned American Idol winner beating Jessica Sanchez.

The 21-year-old guitar player triumphed in the glitzy two-hour finale of the Fox talent contest and he fought back tears when his name was announced by the show's host Ryan Seacrest.

The win by Phillips means that no girl has won the competition since Jordin Sparks won in season six.

The show was a star-studded affair with Reba McEntire, John Fogerty, Neil Diamond, Chaka Khan, Jennifer Holliday and former Idol winners Sparks and Fantasia Barrino teaming up with this season's finalists for collaborations.

Judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler also performed - Tyler hit the stage with Aerosmith and Lopez belted out her new single Follow the Leader with Mexican duo Wisin y Yandel, while there were also a special set from Rihanna, and the male finalists performed a medley of Bee Gees hits as a tribute to Robin Gibb, who died on May 20th.

The show had another surprise for viewers when season five American Idol finalist Ace Young proposed to his girlfriend and season three runner-up Diana DeGarmo live on air.

After the future bride accepted the proposal, she remarked, "I'm so speechless right now! And my make-up's running..."

Actor Alecis planning to stay in Europe after the Cannes Film Festival in France and marry his fiancee, according to a new report.

The 30 Rock star proposed to Hilaria Thomas earlier this year and subsequently hinted to fans they were planning a September wedding.

He posted on Twitter, "Anyone got a castle they're not using in September?"

But now editors at New York Post gossip column Page Six have reported that Baldwin will exchange vows with Thomas at a secret location in Europe when he's finished shooting his Cannes documentary.

An insider tells the publication, "They've been telling people they'll be spending time in Europe, and there's speculation they're going to get married."

Minka Kelly is in talks to become the latest actress to tackle Jackie Kennedy on screen.

The third The Hangover movie will be set in Tijuana, according to new reports.

An insider close to the top secret sequel developments tells Life & Style magazine that director Todd Phillips will shoot much of the new film in Los Angeles and Las Vegas before taking castmates Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis south of the border into Mexico.

The two previous comedies were set in Las Vegas and Thailand.

The Hangover 3 is scheduled to hit cinemas in May 2013.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation was set to wow cinemagoers this summer but Paramount Pictures executives have decided to move the release of the movie to March 2013 while they undertake the time-consuming 3-D process - reports Deadline.com.

Converting a film into 3-D can lead to mixed results. Critics of the process savaged 2010's Clash of the Titans for unnecessary use of the technology while this year's re-release of Titanic in 3-D was a worldwide box office hit.

A studio insider tells the movie industry site, "We’re going to do a conscientious 3-D job because we’ve seen how it can better box office internationally. Jim Cameron did all of Titanic‘s 3-D in post (production) - and look how well that movie turned out."

Paramount have had success delaying a movie before. They shunted Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island from October 2009 to February 2010 and enjoyed box office success.

Actor Jim Parsons has officially revealed he is gay in a New York Times profile piece.

The Emmy Award and Golden Globe-winning The Big Bang Theory star, 39, is promoting his upcoming star turn in the Broadway production Harvey.

Parsons sat down for an interview with Times columnist Patrick Healy and his sexuality is mentioned near the end of the article.

Terrence Howard's ex-girlfriend has been arrested after allegedly attacking the actor, according to a report.

Howard claims May Seng Yang, 39, punched him in the face outside his Pennsylvania home on May 6th and was subsequently arrested and charged with assault, trespassing, harassment and disorderly conduct, according to CBS Philly.

Howard told police that when his former partner arrived at his house, his new girlfriend opened the door and he claims that when he went outside to see what was going on, Yang hit him in the face.

Yang denies the allegations and is due in court in June.

Brad Pitt has ruled out stepping behind the camera to direct his first film because he couldn't bear the thought of leaving behind his six kids for any length of time.

The actor shares parenting duties with fiancee Angelina Jolie, who made her directorial debut with foreign film In the Land of Blood and Honey.

And Pitt admits he has no interest in following in her footsteps because he watched the actress struggle to stick out the production from start to finish, without growing homesick.

Gary Oldman has signed up to star in the remake of 1987 action movie RoboCop.

The Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy star will appear opposite Joel Kinnaman in the reboot of Paul Verhoeven's movie, playing the scientist who creates RoboCop.

Kinnaman will play the title role, while Jose Padilha is directing the film.

Megan Fox fueled reports that she's pregnant with her first child by sporting a bulging belly during a walk around her neighborhood in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old was photographed looking bigger than usual, with her hands resting on her tummy as she took a stroll.

The snaps appear to show the Transformers star is well past her first three months, but she has yet to comment on the rumors she is expecting a baby with husband Brian Austin Green.
