David Ortiz added a solo home run while Will Middlebrooks had two hits, an RBI and a run scored for the Red Sox. Clay Buchholz (1-0) pitched two hitless innings in the start.
Jason Marquis (0-1) gave up four runs on three hits with three walks over just 1 2/3 innings for the Twins. Joe Mauer had two hits and an RBI in the loss.
