Recent news on the latest bear attack near Newport was reported as an isolated incident even though there was a similar attack on July 1, 2010 across the road from the Moyer home. The game commission, after being notified on several occasions by residents that bears entering garages and rummaging through trash cans, advised to "shoosh" them away, they are as afraid of you as you are of them. The larger male was photographed the night of the 10/3/11 attack. The clock was not reset so it was actually 12:07 AM

really? two in a year and a half is not isolated? bears were here well before you, so you need to adapt to them, not them to you. humans are supposed to be the smarter species, so i would put higher expectations on them than the bears. the bears smell food, know they need food, and then go to get the food. you come out and scare the censored out of them/try to take their food (in their mind) and they attack. and you are surprised. if someone tried to take your dinner, would you be cool with it? just leave the restaurant/table? probably not. and there bear is not as smart as you (hopefully). it doesn't even know it shouldn't be there--they don't quite get the concept of "personal property," you know? take a day, get some 2x4s and some 1/2"+ plywood, some heavy duty hinges, and a couple good latches, and figure it out. keep your trash out of the garage, and the bears won't go in the garage.
