I am fostering 2 ladies that came from a puppy mill in Missouri. Their start got off to a slow and frightening start. At a rest area outside Jackson, TN., their crate fell out of the transport vehicle and opened. Both girls ran...Behind the rest stop was a cornfield, soy field and cotton field. Thank God for some other local rescues. They came to Shih Tzu and Furbaby Rescue , Inc. aide. The DDG group organized a search party while we made arrangements for one of our rep's to get there. The tranasporters had 32 other pups and had to get them to the rescue so they had to go on. I arrived on the scene and was given some good new...pup #1 Annie a little black and white shih tzu weighing about 8 lbs. had been found...We were only searching for 1 cream colored pup....For the next week, we put flyers out, signs up, walked woods, fields and rode back country roads. And we had some great public support. I spent days in the heat walking every field and wood line in a 2 mile area. Walked the side of I40 for hours...all while taking chemo pills. It came to a point that i had to return home empty handed. So i said a prayer....for Emmy (I already named her) to be found a closure given to us one way or another. I went home to take my infusions at UAB. It was arranged that i would be going back as soon as i got over the infusion which takes several days for the pain and nausea to disappear...I had packed my car up ready to head back to Jackson (a 5 hour trip from my house) the night before and was going to stay for 2 more weeks...That night i got a text message...it was a dot in front of a soy field...8 miles away from where she got loose...A lady called cause she saw our flyer... After talking with Amy of Names to Numbers rescue and Randy Clark (a volunteer who spent days in the sun with me) abd Amy's vet it was decided what we would do. We put food out with a sedative and got the place surrounded.....She ate it and 30 minutes later she was in Amy's arms. I left out early the next morning so excited. Finally she was gonna have her chance at being loved....I drove to TN., met up with the volunteers and we loaded the crate up in my car. Both ladies were going to be at my house until they find forever homes. We have had Annie treated for heartworms (21 others from this puppy mill were heartworm positive and treated also)...Emmy was not....Both ladies had sever eye and ear infections, will be on eye meds for the rest of their life....They have been cleaned up and you should see at bath time. These ladies have lost the sadness in their eyes, knows what it is like to have plenty of food and clean water a soft bed to sleep on....and most important, they have found out what it is like to be loved... I wish there was a way to do before and after photos....But here is a photo of both the ladies...
